WSH Institute Visiting Expert Series - Addressing Nanomaterial Risks at the Workplace

The VES session was held at Devan Nair Institute for Employment and Employability, Hall 1, Level 1 on 24 February 2016.

This  WSH Institute Visiting Expert Series (VES) was held with support from the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC). The half day session entitled Addressing Nanomaterial Risks at the Workplace held on 24 February was attended by around 120 participants from WSH service providers, academia, government organizations and industry.

Associate Professor Ng Kee Woei, of the School of Materials Science and Engineering in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) shared an overview of nanomaterial applications and their potential safety and health risks. Dr Michael Riediker, Director of Operations SAFENANO, Institute of Occupational Medicine (IOM) Singapore presented key findings from a WSH-Institute sponsored project – “Potential occupational exposures to nanoparticles in Singapore”, highlighting local work exposure scenarios, and providing recommendations for more effective and efficient protection against occupational exposures to nanoparticles.

The VES ended with a panel discussion  which covered  the application of preventive measures to manage nanomaterial risks. Through the session, the audience gained a better understanding of  approaches to minimize nanomaterial risks at the workplace.
